If you have worksheets stapled to your quiz, do not unstaple them!! You will turn the entire packet in to me by Friday!!

  • If you have a multiplication page stapled to your quiz, you will work on that today.
  • If you don't, you will work with a partner on the brain sizzlers

Only one number in the English language is written with its letters in alphabetical order. What number is it?


Task 2: With a partner at your table, complete the activities on the worksheets:

  • Activity 2, Checking Answers
  • Activity 3, Using Estimation


Task 3: Staple pages 3-6, make sure your name is on them (first and last), and put them in a pile on your table.


Task 4: Practice: Use what you learned about choosing operations to complete Exercises 8-11 on page 7 of the textbook. Show the work in your notebook.

Task 1: Take our your homework, be sure your name is on it (first and last), and make a stack on your table


Task 2: Warm-Up (10 min)

  • Write the heading Warm-Up 8/25 on the next blank page in your math notebook
  • Get the textbooks out of the table cabinet and turn to page 1 (it's not numbered, but it's before page 2!)
  • Look at problems 1-9. Which ones are prime numbers? Record them in your notebook.
  • Solve problems 10-15 and show the work in your notebook.


Task 3: With a partner at your table, complete the activities on the worksheets:

  • Activity 1, Choosing an Operation
  • Activity 2, Checking Answers

Instructions for project:
  1. work with your partner or triad
  2. get a card from Ms. Lopez
  3. in your math notebook, write down all the factors of each number
  4. get a piece of graph paper and build a rectangle for each factor pair
  5. color each rectangle and carefully cut them out and glue them onto construction paper
  6. create a poster for each number that includes all the possible factor pairs and corresponding rectangles. The number must be on the top of the poster

Task 2: Start Star Poster Project (finish it for homework over the weekend, due on Monday)

Create a poster about your strengths and goals for the year that includes:
  • Your name, math period, date
  • One or two strengths that you have
  • Two specific academic goals for the year (we'll brainstorm)
  • Three study habits that will help you reach your goals (we'll brainstorm this, too)
  • A picture of yourself (can be recent or a picture of you when you were younger - you'll get this back by the end of the school year)
  • Color it! Lots of color, please. It will be up in our room, so make it look good.
